The Tiny House Movement – Hot Trend

Tiny House fever appears to be gripping New Zealand. Small, designer homes seem to be cropping up all around the country – with many owners choosing to live in a ‘Tiny House’ prior to building their own, full size home.

The possibility of DIY building one’s own home has encouraged the movement, particularly for tiny houses on trailers (essentially, houses on wheels).

Tiny houses on wheels are similar to caravans, but built to last as long as traditional homes. Unlike traditional homes, tiny houses on wheels do not always require building consent – eliminating compliance costs and construction delays.

Small homes are cheaper in terms of taxes, building, heating, maintenance, and repair costs. In addition to being inexpensive, smaller houses encourage a less cluttered, simpler lifestyle while reducing ecological impacts.

Abodo has seen a surge in demand for lightweight, low toxicity “eco” wood cladding, specifically for building Tiny Homes.

Abodo's Tundra and Vulcan timbers are ideal cladding solutions for Tiny Homes, given that they are lightweight, free from preservatives – and low cost.
