For this Melbourne based couple looking to slow down and escape the city, at 60 minutes away Barwon Heads was the perfect bolthole to welcome family at weekends, and eventually retire to.

On an estuary, the site is situated within a stone's throw of the Bass Strait and its ocean spray, coupled with the local weather being harsh, with cold damp winters and hot dry summers of 40 degrees.

The brief for the timber was for something: stable, durable, and low maintenance. Our thermally modified Vulcan timber with Sioo:x Protective Treatment met all three key requirements.

BH2 House Vulcan Cladding and Vulcan Screening Abodo Wood 3

Vulcan timber’s exceptional stability allowed the architect to have fixings top and bottom only

Sioo:x relies on atmospheric moisture and carbon dioxide to turn grey, which means all the timber will weather evenly.

Under 1kg heavier than cedar (also much harder than cedar), they were able to use Vulcan timber on the garage door.
