NEWS / Increase of Timber Supply

Increase of Timber Supply Availability of our Vulcan timber is going to increase further from 2023.

Over the last three years the construction industry has been turned upside down due to unfortunate events which have resulted in massive lead times and supply shortages, but when it comes to feature timber we have incredible news.

Abodo, along with its Australian distribution partners, have managed to overall stay within the standard pre-covid four week lead time on in-stock products. Heading into 2023 our supply is even greater.

Our primary timber species ‘Vulcan’ is sourced from Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified plantations in the North Island of New Zealand. By sourcing from plantations such as this, the effects of extreme weather events such as flooding are mitigated (hardwood forests are often inaccessible for several months of the disrupting supply).

Vulcan Timber Key Facts

  • LOW MAINTENANCE: Vulcan has its own custom-designed coating system to minimise maintenance, resulting in half the maintenance of oiled hardwoods.
  • NO LEACHING: Thermal modification treatment extracts all tannins so no leaching will occur.
  • SET LENGTHS: Having a set length of up to 6m is a significant timesaver during installation and eliminates the need for joins in the wall.
  • STABILITY: The timber's stability allows; 180mm wide cladding boards, 40% greater spans between battens than hardwoods, and less maintenance.

Vulcan is FSC® certified, which ensures a minimum of 10% of forest land is set aside for native flora to encourage biodiversity.

Rarer than Kiwi, the Kārearea (or New Zealand Falcon) is endangered, but starting to thrive in the Kaingaroa forest due to careful forestry management.
