Finish Quality: Timber Weatherboards vs Fibre Cement Weatherboards
Timber weatherboards and fibre cement weatherboards are commonly used in Australasia, however the finish quality is very different. Which is best?
In construction and architecture, it is the details that make the difference.
In New Zealand and Australia, both timber weatherboards and fibre cement weatherboards are commonly used. However the finish quality is dramatically different. Due to the nature of fibre cement board and the way that it is manufactured, the surface of fibre cement board is rougher, with a pocked surface.
By contrast the super smooth surface of Abodo's Vulcan Primed Timber Cladding is machined to a fine sheen, leaving a slick painted surface.
These photos are from the same Auckland new build which used a combination of Vulcan Primed Timber Cladding and a market leading fibre cement weatherboard. The difference is obvious.
The fine surface finish achieved with Vulcan Primed Cladding is due to the thermal modification process the timber goes through. The thermal modification process changes the cellular structure of the timber, breaking the cellular walls of the timber and creating a more stable timber, which is easier to profile.
Discerning home owners will agree, the finish of timber weatherboards, particularly Vulcan Primed Cladding is far superior.
