Charred Timber House - Wanaka, New Zealand

Abodo’s Vulcan Timber cladding was charred in the Japanese style known as Yakisugi – or Shou Sugi Ban.

The charred finish is a design feature and the thick char layer on the exterior of the timber helps act as a barrier to the prominent UV rays found in the region.

Set in Wanaka where summer temperatures soar to 35 degrees these photos show the house after two summers, with the house remaining charcoal black and relatively unaffected by the harsh local weather.
